  • To investigate the relationships between self-efficacy, cognitive function, health information seeking, and self-management.

  • A cross-sectional, descriptive study involving 113 adult LT recipients with functioning transplants for at least six months.
  • Data collection included identifying self-management behaviors, assessing medication adherence and symptom management, cognitive function, self-efficacy, and health information seeking.
  • Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, latent profile analysis, and probit model for path analysis.

Main Results:

  • LT recipients reported engaging in diverse self-management activities, including symptom management, physical activity, maintaining positive attitudes, and healthcare provider communication.
  • Three distinct levels of self-management were identified: low, medium, and high.
  • A high level of self-management was significantly associated with higher self-efficacy and greater health information seeking behavior.

Conclusions:

  • Interventions targeting increased self-efficacy and improved health information seeking behaviors show promise for enhancing self-management in LT recipients.
  • These findings will guide the development of future interventions to improve self-management and health outcomes in this patient group.
  • Further longitudinal studies are recommended to establish causality between the identified factors and self-management.
