Abstract:
Infections are the leading cause of mortality among patients with multiple myeloma (MM). This review presents etiology and epidemiological data concerning infectious complications in the course of MM, risk factors for its development and current indications for prophylaxis and treatment of infections in this group of patients.
Insights
Infections are the primary cause of death in multiple myeloma (MM) patients. This review covers infection causes, risks, and current treatment strategies for MM patients.
Area of Science:
- Hematology
- Infectious Diseases
- Oncology
Background:
- Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy.
- Infections are a major cause of mortality in MM patients.
- Understanding infectious complications is crucial for patient outcomes.
Purpose of the Study:
- To review the etiology and epidemiology of infections in MM.
- To identify risk factors for infectious complications in MM.
- To outline current prophylaxis and treatment guidelines for infections in MM.
Main Methods:
- Literature review of infectious complications in multiple myeloma.
- Analysis of etiological and epidemiological data.
- Synthesis of current clinical guidelines for infection management.
Main Results:
- Infections significantly contribute to mortality in multiple myeloma.
- Specific risk factors predispose MM patients to infections.
- Established protocols exist for infection prophylaxis and treatment.
Conclusions:
- Infectious complications pose a substantial threat to multiple myeloma patients.
- Proactive management of risk factors and adherence to guidelines are essential.
- Effective prophylaxis and treatment strategies can improve survival rates in MM.

Multiple Regression
Farmers can use multiple regression to determine the crop yield based on more than one factor, such as water availability, fertilizer, soil properties, etc. Here, the crop yield is the response or dependent variable as it depends on the other independent variables. The analysis requires the construction of a scatter plot...
