Biodiversity describes the variety of living things at multiple organizational levels: genetic, species and ecosystem diversity. Moreover, the fossil record only exhibits fossils that have been discovered. Nevertheless, sedimentary rock fossils of long-lived, abundant, hard-bodied organisms dominate the fossil record.
