A novel yellow bacterium, Chryseolinea soli sp. nov., was discovered in Korean soil. This aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium exhibits gliding motility and represents a new species within the Chryseolinea genus.
Area of Science:
- Microbiology
- Bacteriology
- Phylogenetics
Background:
- Soil ecosystems harbor diverse microbial communities.
- The phylum Bacteroidetes includes many ecologically significant bacteria.
- Accurate taxonomic classification is crucial for understanding microbial diversity and function.
Purpose of the Study:
- To isolate and characterize a novel bacterial strain from a soil sample.
- To determine the phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic properties of the isolate.
- To propose a new species and genus for the novel bacterium.
Main Methods:
- Isolation and cultivation of bacteria from soil samples.
- Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
- Physiological and chemotaxonomic analyses (fatty acid profiles, polar lipids, quinone systems).
Main Results:
- A yellow-pigmented, aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium with gliding motility was isolated (strain KIS68-18T).
- Phylogenetic analysis showed close relation to Chryseolinea serpens (98.9% 16S rRNA gene similarity).
- Chemotaxonomic data (MK-7, fatty acids, polar lipids) and DNA G+C content (50.9%) supported its distinct taxonomic position.
Conclusions:
- Strain KIS68-18T represents a novel species of the genus Chryseolinea.
- The proposed name for the novel species is Chryseolinea soli sp. nov.
- The type strain is KIS68-18T (= KACC 17327T = NBRC 113100T).

Cyclic Processes And Isolated Systems
In the case of a non-isolated system, the change in the internal energy is zero only if the process is cyclic. A thermodynamic process is considered cyclic if the system undergoes a series of changes and returns to its initial state.
Consider a cyclic process that returns to its initial state, undergoing a four-step process. The heat transfer along each...
