Hypothyroidism can cause various muscle disorders, including hypothyroid myopathy and inflammatory myopathies. Treatment with thyroxine normalized creatine kinase levels in hypothyroid myopathy patients.

  • Elevated serum creatine kinase (CK) levels (up to 12-fold) were observed in hypothyroid myopathy.
  • CK levels normalized after thyroxine treatment.
  • Histopathological findings varied, including fiber atrophy/hypertrophy, necrosis, regeneration, and core-like areas.
