Purpose of the Study:

  • To test the hypothesis that manual laborers experience greater limitations in returning to work.

  • Retrospective case series of 54 patients undergoing AC joint stabilization using the TightRope technique.
  • Analysis of pre- and post-traumatic working capacity, clinical outcomes (DASH, Constant-Murley scores), and complications.
  • Follow-up rate of 80.1% with a mean follow-up time of 23 months (range 18-45 months).

Main Results:

  • 94.5% of patients returned to work, with a median RTW time of 13 weeks (range 5-143 weeks).
  • Manual working patients demonstrated lower RTW rates (91.2% vs. 100%), significantly longer RTW times (15.5 vs. 6 weeks; p=0.008), and higher rates of persistent shoulder symptoms (55.9% vs. 5%; p<0.001).

Conclusions:

  • AC joint stabilization facilitates return to work for most patients, but recovery duration can be substantial.
  • Manual laborers require more time for RTW and are more prone to persistent work-related shoulder symptoms.
