Lung Capacity

56.3K
The air in the lungs is measured in volumes and capacities. Lung volume measures reflect the amount of air taken in, released, or left over after a lung function, like a single inhalation. Lung capacity measures are sums of two or more lung volume measures.

Prediction Intervals01:03

Prediction Intervals

3.4K
The interval estimate of any variable is known as the prediction interval. It helps decide if a point estimate is dependable.
However, the point estimate is most likely not the exact value of the population parameter, but close to it. After calculating point estimates, we construct interval estimates, called confidence intervals or prediction intervals. This prediction interval comprises a range of values unlike the point estimate and is a better predictor of the observed sample value, y.

Molecular Models

43.7K
Physical models representing molecular architectures of chemical compounds play essential roles in understanding chemistry. The use of molecular models makes it easier to visualize the structures and shapes of atoms and molecules.

End Point Prediction: Gran Plot01:07

End Point Prediction: Gran Plot

1.2K
A Gran plot is used to predict the equivalence volume or endpoint of a potentiometric or acid-base titration without reaching the endpoint. Typically, titration data is collected as a function of the titrant's volume up to a point less than the equivalence volume and then transformed into a linear format. The straight line is extended to the x-axis, indicating the necessary titrant volume to achieve the equivalence point.
For potentiometric titration, the Gran plot is created by plotting...

Molecular Signatures Predict Problematic Lung Lesions

    Cancer Discovery

    Summary

Lung carcinoma in situ lesions have distinct molecular profiles depending on whether they become invasive or regress. This discovery could lead to new tests for identifying high-risk tumors needing treatment.

    Area of Science:

    • Oncology
    • Molecular Biology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Lung carcinoma in situ (LCIS) represents a pre-invasive stage of lung cancer.
    • Understanding the molecular differences between LCIS that progresses and LCIS that regresses is crucial for early detection and treatment.

    Discussion:

    • The study identified a unique molecular signature in LCIS lesions that progress to invasive lung carcinoma.
    • Conversely, LCIS lesions with a propensity for spontaneous regression exhibit a different molecular profile.
    • These molecular distinctions highlight key pathways involved in tumor progression versus regression.

    Key Insights:

    • Distinct molecular signatures differentiate between progressive and regressive lung carcinoma in situ.
    • This finding offers a potential basis for developing diagnostic or prognostic tests.

  • Identifying high-risk lesions early can guide therapeutic interventions, improving patient outcomes.
  • Outlook:

    • Further research can validate these molecular signatures for clinical application.
    • Development of a molecular test could enable personalized treatment strategies for lung cancer.
    • This approach may reduce overtreatment of non-progressive lesions and ensure timely intervention for aggressive ones.
