Multiple Regression01:25

Multiple Regression

4.0K
Multiple regression assesses a linear relationship between one response or dependent variable and two or more independent variables. It has many practical applications.
Farmers can use multiple regression to determine the crop yield based on more than one factor, such as water availability, fertilizer, soil properties, etc. Here, the crop yield is the response or dependent variable as it depends on the other independent variables. The analysis requires the construction of a scatter plot...

Multiple Voltage Sources01:25

Multiple Voltage Sources

1.8K
Generally, a single battery is not enough to power some devices. In such cases, batteries can be combined in two ways: in series or in parallel.
In series, the positive terminal of one battery is connected to the negative terminal of another battery. Hence, the voltage of each battery is added to give the net voltage, which is increased because each battery boosts the electrons that enter it. The same current flows through each battery because they are connected in series.
Batteries are...

Deformation of Member under Multiple Loadings01:11

Deformation of Member under Multiple Loadings

471
When a rod is made of different materials or has various cross-sections, it must be divided into parts that meet the necessary conditions for determining the deformation. These parts are each characterized by their internal force, cross-sectional area, length, and modulus of elasticity. These parameters are then used to compute the deformation of the entire rod.
In the case of a member with a variable cross-section, the strain is not constant but depends on the position. The deformation of an...

Multiple Bar Graph

9.2K
As the name suggests, a multiple bar graph is the same as a bar graph but has multiple bars to depict relationships between different data values. One can include as many parameters as possible. However, each parameter must have the same unit of measurement.
Each bar or column in the multiple bar graph represents a data value. These graphs are used primarily in interrelating two or more sets of data. The categories of different kinds of data are listed along the horizontal or x-axis, whereas...

Multiple Comparison Tests01:13

Multiple Comparison Tests

4.5K
Multiple comparison test, abbreviated as MCT, is a post hoc analysis generally performed after comparing multiple samples with one or more tests. An MCT will help identify a significantly different sample among multiple samples or a factor among multiple factors.
It would be easy to compare two samples using a significance alpha level of 0.05. In other words, there is only one sample pair to be compared. However, it would be difficult to identify a significantly different sample if the number...

Summary

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) shows promise for multiple brain metastases, offering similar survival to limited metastases without the neurocognitive decline of whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT). SRS may be a preferred option for selected patients, especially those with a favorable prognosis.

Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is established for limited brain metastases.
  • Whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT) is the standard for multiple brain metastases but has neurocognitive side effects.
  • The role of SRS for multiple brain metastases remains debated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review current evidence on stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastases.
  • To specifically focus on the application and outcomes of SRS for multiple brain metastases.

Main Methods:

  • Review of current clinical data and evidence regarding SRS for brain metastases.
  • Comparison of SRS outcomes with whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT) for multiple brain metastases.
  • Analysis of survival, neurocognitive function, and quality of life in patients treated with SRS.

Main Results:

  • SRS is feasible for multiple brain metastases, showing similar survival rates compared to limited metastases.
  • SRS preserves neurocognitive function and quality of life, crucial for palliative care.
  • SRS is an effective alternative to WBRT, particularly for patients with favorable prognoses, avoiding WBRT's side effects.

Conclusions:

  • SRS is a safe and effective option for selected patients with multiple brain metastases.
  • SRS offers an advantage over WBRT by mitigating neurocognitive decline.
  • Individualized treatment decisions considering prognosis and patient quality of life are essential for managing multiple brain metastases.
