Contrast-enhanced lesions on computerised tomography in multiple sclerosis.

A E Harding, E W Radue, A M Whiteley

Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry
    |August 1, 1978

    Summary

Early multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions show contrast enhancement on CT scans. These demyelinating lesions differ from tumors due to their temporary nature and location in white matter, suggesting blood-brain barrier disruption.

    Area of Science:

    • Neurology
    • Radiology
    • Neuroimmunology

    Background:

    • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system.
    • Early diagnosis of MS is crucial for timely intervention and management.
    • Distinguishing MS lesions from other pathologies, such as tumors, can be challenging.
