First Report of Beech Bark Disease in Michigan

Beech bark disease, caused by the beech scale insect (Cryptococcus fagisuga) and fungi (Nectria spp.), is reported for the first time in Michigan. This invasive species is now established in both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas.
