Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the establishment of RBDV in Scottish raspberry plantations.
  • To identify if resistance-breaking (RB) isolates of RBDV were present.

Main Methods:

  • A survey of 77 raspberry holdings in Scotland was conducted in 1998.
  • 201 stocks were sampled and tested using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
  • ELISA-positive samples were grafted onto 'Glen Clova' to test for RB isolates.

Main Results:

  • RBDV was detected in 22% of sampled stocks, with infection incidence ranging from 2% to 80%.
  • No RBDV was found in plantations with RBDV-S resistant cultivars or 'Glen Clova'.
