Summary

Patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus often experience impaired emotional abilities, including alexithymia (difficulty identifying and describing emotions) and reduced emotional awareness. Longitudinal study findings suggest emotional functioning changes are linked to lupus duration and psychiatric conditions.
