Glottic carcinoma is increasingly affecting younger, non-smoking patients, often linked to human papillomavirus (HPV). This study found a rise in HPV-positive glottic cancers in individuals 30 years old and younger.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the incidence of glottic carcinoma in patients aged 30 years or younger.
  • To determine the association of HPV with glottic carcinoma in this demographic.
  • To analyze trends in glottic carcinoma diagnosis over a 28-year period.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of glottic cancer patients evaluated between July 1990 and June 2018.
  • Data collected from Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Massachusetts General Hospital.
  • HPV testing performed on patients diagnosed at age 30 or younger.
