    Area of Science:

    • Podiatric surgery
    • Trauma reconstruction
    • Dermatological surgery

    Background:

    • Foot sole injuries can result in significant tissue loss.
    • Exposure of cancellous bone presents a reconstructive challenge.
    • Timely intervention is crucial for optimal outcomes in foot trauma.

    Observation:

    • A wood merchant sustained a sole-of-foot injury from a circular saw.
    • The injury resulted in the loss of foot sole tissue, exposing cancellous bone.

    Findings:

    • Immediate split skin grafting was performed on the affected foot.
    • The grafting procedure successfully covered the exposed cancellous bone.
    • The outcome of the immediate split skin grafting was highly satisfactory.

    Implications:

    • Immediate split skin grafting is a recommended emergency procedure for such injuries.
    • This technique provides a viable alternative to more complex reconstructive surgeries.
    • Further consideration can be given to procedures like cross-leg flap grafts or amputation if necessary.
