  • The transcription factor delta FosB (ΔFosB) plays a role in learning and memory in the dorsal hippocampus (dHPC).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the cell-autonomous role of ΔFosB in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dHPC DG in neurogenesis and learning.
  • To determine if FosB gene expression in SGZ neurons is necessary for neurogenesis-dependent learning.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized neurotensin receptor-2 (NtsR2) Cre mice crossed with floxed FosB mice.
  • Generated a knockout of ΔFosB specifically in hippocampal SGZ neurons.
  • Assessed antidepressant-induced neurogenesis and hippocampus-dependent learning using the novel object recognition task.

Main Results:

  • Knockout of ΔFosB in hippocampal SGZ neurons significantly reduced antidepressant-induced neurogenesis.
