1From the Department of Facial Plastic Surgery, Marienhospital Stuttgart; and the Clinic for Plastic Surgery.
Pollybeak deformity, a common rhinoplasty complication, can be prevented using two surgical techniques: modified supratip suture or supratip excision. Both methods offer excellent aesthetic outcomes for at-risk patients, particularly those with thick nasal skin.
Area of Science:
- Plastic Surgery
- Otolaryngology
Background:
- Pollybeak deformity is a frequent and stigmatizing complication after primary rhinoplasty.
- Thick nasal skin increases the risk of developing this deformity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To describe two surgical techniques for preventing pollybeak deformity in at-risk rhinoplasty patients.
- To present the outcomes of these techniques in a case series.
Main Methods:
- Modification of Guyuron's supratip suture technique.
- Direct supratip skin excision for cases with significant skin excess.
- Review of 74 patients treated with supratip suture and 21 with supratip excision over 5 years.
Main Results:
- Both supratip suture and supratip excision techniques were employed in selected cases.
- Very good aesthetic results were achieved with both surgical approaches.
Conclusions:
- The modified supratip suture and supratip excision are effective in preventing pollybeak deformity.
- These techniques provide excellent aesthetic results in carefully selected rhinoplasty patients.

Probability in Statistics
An example of a simple event is a coin toss. The result of a coin toss is either a head or a tail. Here, head and tail are two simple events. These two simple events make up the sample space. Further, the probability of an event occurring falls within the range of 0 to 1. The probability of an...
