Crosstalk between tumor cells and lymphocytes modulates heparanase expression

Heparan sulfate (HS) secreted by breast cancer cells, often via exosomes, upregulates heparanase (HPSE) and heparanase-2 (HPSE2) expression in circulating lymphocytes. This suggests a tumor-lymphocyte crosstalk mechanism involving HS.
