A schema is a mental construct consisting of a cluster or collection of related concepts (Bartlett, 1932). There are many different types of schemata, and they all have one thing in common: schemata are a method of organizing information that allows the brain to work more efficiently. When a schema is activated, the brain makes immediate assumptions about the person or object being observed.

Viral Mutations

A mutation is a change in the sequence of bases of DNA or RNA in a genome. Some mutations occur during replication of the genome due to errors made by the polymerase enzymes that replicate DNA or RNA. Unlike DNA polymerase, RNA polymerase is prone to errors because it is not capable of “proofreading” its work. Background:

Adolescents and young adults remain a significant demographic for new HIV infections.
Despite advancements in antiretroviral therapy and prophylaxis (PrEP, PEP), HIV transmission persists in this age group.
Understanding nonoccupational HIV postexposure prophylaxis (nPEP) is critical for pediatricians managing adolescents with reported sexual activity.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the effectiveness and current challenges of nonoccupational HIV postexposure prophylaxis (nPEP) in adolescents and young adults.
To highlight the importance of nPEP knowledge for healthcare providers.
To identify strategies for improving nPEP prescription and patient compliance.

Main Methods:

Review of current research on nPEP efficacy and physician prescribing practices.
Analysis of studies focusing on nPEP medication regimens, dosing, and follow-up.
Examination of strategies to enhance provider awareness and patient adherence to nPEP.

Main Results:

nPEP is an effective HIV prevention strategy when administered correctly.
Newer nPEP regimens offer improved compliance, reduced side effects, and lower risk of HIV resistance.
