Ready Mixed Concrete01:26

Ready Mixed Concrete

354
Ready-mixed concrete, also known as pre-mixed concrete, is prepared in a centralized plant and then transported in trucks to construction sites where it is ready for placement. This type of concrete is categorized into central-mixed, truck-mixed (or transit-mixed), and shrink-mixed. Central-mixed concrete is entirely prepared at a plant and moved to the site in agitator trucks that rotate at a speed of 2 to 6 rpm. Truck-mixed concrete, on the other hand, has the ingredients batched at the plant...

14.1K
Base complementarity between the three base pairs of mRNA codon and the tRNA anticodon is not a failsafe mechanism. Inaccuracies can range from a single mismatch to no correct base pairing at all. The free energy difference between the correct and nearly correct base pairs can be as small as 3 kcal/ mol. With complementarity being the only proofreading step, the estimated error frequency would be one wrong amino acid in every 100 amino acids incorporated. However, error frequencies observed in...

Genetic Screens02:46

Genetic Screens

5.6K
Genetic screens are tools used to identify genes and mutations responsible for phenotypes of interest. Genetic screens help identify individuals or a group of people at risk of developing  genetic diseases and help them with early intervention, targeted therapy, and reproductive options.
Forward genetic screens
Forward or “classical” genetic screens involve creating random mutations in an organism’s DNA using radiation, mutagens, or insertion of additional bases, which...

Aggression01:47

Aggression

30.1K
Humans engage in aggression when they seek to cause harm or pain to another person. Aggression takes two forms depending on one’s motives: hostile or instrumental. Hostile aggression is motivated by feelings of anger with intent to cause pain; a fight in a bar with a stranger is an example of hostile aggression. In contrast, instrumental aggression is motivated by achieving a goal and does not necessarily involve intent to cause pain (Berkowitz, 1993); a contract killer who murders for...

Relationship Formation02:12

Relationship Formation

45.2K
What do you think is the single most influential factor in determining with whom you become friends and whom you form romantic relationships? You might be surprised to learn that the answer is simple: the people with whom you have the most contact. This most important factor is proximity. You are more likely to be friends with people you have regular contact with. For example, there are decades of research that shows that you are more likely to become friends with people who live in your dorm,...

Summary

Healthcare providers are more ready to screen for intimate partner violence (IPV) after education and EMR tool integration. This intervention improved provider confidence and reduced fears associated with screening for IPV.

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Healthcare Informatics
  • Clinical Practice

Background:

  • Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a critical public health concern.
  • Healthcare providers are vital in preventing and reducing IPV through screening.
  • Integrating IPV screening into routine care presents an opportunity for early intervention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of an educational intervention and an electronic medical record (EMR) integrated screening tool on healthcare provider readiness to screen for IPV.
  • To evaluate changes in provider attitudes and perceived barriers related to IPV screening.

Main Methods:

  • An intervention combining EMR-integrated screening tool, automated resource system, and provider education was implemented.
  • Healthcare provider readiness was measured pre- and post-intervention using the Domestic Violence Health Care Provider Survey Scale (DVHCPSS).
  • An unpaired Student's t test was used to analyze the data.

Main Results:

  • Overall readiness for IPV screening significantly increased post-intervention (p = .003).
  • Significant improvements were observed in reducing "professional role resistance/fear of offending the patient" (p < .0001), "blame victim items" (p = .0029), "perceived self-efficacy" (p = .0064), and "victim/provider safety" (p = .003).

Conclusions:

  • Integrating a validated IPV screening tool into the EMR, coupled with education, enhances provider readiness for IPV screening.
  • Standardized, accessible IPV screening tools embedded in EMRs can facilitate universal screening and referral, aiding IPV reduction and prevention.
