    Summary

    A high incidence of vertebrobasilar junction aneurysms were found to arise from fenestrations in the proximal basilar artery. These aneurysms may be linked to defects in the artery wall and turbulent blood flow.

    Background:

    • Vertebrobasilar junction aneurysms are a significant cause of cerebrovascular events.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the incidence and potential causes of vertebrobasilar junction aneurysms arising from proximal basilar artery fenestrations.

    • Retrospective review of 59 cases of vertebrobasilar junction aneurysms diagnosed and treated between January 1977 and April 1986.
