Sickle cell disease (SCD) patients exhibit significantly lower lung volumes and prevalent restrictive defects compared to controls. These lung function abnormalities in SCD are not linked to disease severity markers.

- Restrictive lung defects are highly prevalent in Hb-SS patients.
- These lung function abnormalities in SCD are not significantly associated with established markers of disease severity.
