    Summary

    Patients with guttate psoriasis showed reduced T-lymphocyte DNA synthesis in response to phytohemagglutinin (PHA). However, overall T and B lymphocyte counts remained unchanged in these patients compared to healthy individuals.

    Background:

    • Psoriasis guttata is an inflammatory skin condition.
    • T-lymphocytes play a crucial role in immune responses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate T-lymphocyte function in patients with psoriasis guttata.
    • To compare T-lymphocyte DNA synthesis in patients versus healthy controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Studied 24 patients with psoriasis guttata and healthy controls.
    • Assessed in vitro DNA synthesis of T-lymphocytes stimulated with mitogens like phytohemagglutinin (PHA).
    • Quantified peripheral blood T and B lymphocyte numbers.

    • A statistically significant decrease in DNA synthesis was observed in response to PHA stimulation.
    • Reduced DNA synthesis was also noted with concanavalin A, poke weed mitogen, and PPD, though not always significant.

    Conclusions:

    • Lymphocyte counts are not altered, suggesting a functional rather than a numerical deficit.
