Professional Values01:29

Professional Values

10.5K
Nurses are responsible for caring for patients during birth, death, illness, and healing. Professional values guide the decisions and actions that nurses make in their careers. If nurses know the decisions and actions to take, providing patients with exceptional care is possible.
The values that are the foundation of the nursing profession are altruism, autonomy, human dignity, and social justice.
First, altruism refers to the concern for the welfare and well-being of others without personal...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

6.4K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis I

3.6K
A nursing diagnosis is written when the nurse recognizes a cluster of essential patient data indicating health problems treated with independent nursing interventions. The standardized terminologies of a nursing diagnosis help nurses identify and treat patients' problems. Every electronic health record that uses nursing diagnosis must employ standard diagnostic terminology. Developing an efficient, individualized care plan begins with accurate nursing diagnoses.
There are thirteen domains...

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

3.6K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

Biodiversity and Human Values01:24

Biodiversity and Human Values

16.7K
Human civilization relies on biodiversity in many ways. Sudden changes in species biodiversity result in environmental changes that can modify weather patterns and therefore human civilizations.

Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

13.8K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Area of Science:

  • Nursing
  • Psychometrics
  • Healthcare Professionalism

Background:

  • The Nurses Professional Values Scale-Revised (NPVS-R) is widely used but primarily validated in female samples.
  • Limited data exists on the NPVS-R's psychometric properties in male nursing populations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the reliability and validity of the NPVS-R in a sample of male nurses and nursing students.
  • To determine if the NPVS-R is a suitable instrument for evaluating professional values in men within the nursing field.

Main Methods:

  • Psychometric testing using principal component analysis (PCA) on a sample of 329 male nurses and students in the US.
  • Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha.

Main Results:

  • Participants found the NPVS-R values important, with higher ratings from graduate students and nurses compared to undergraduates.
  • Factor analysis yielded labels similar to previous studies: caring, professionalism, and activism.
  • Observed variations in responses may indicate cultural influences.

Conclusions:

  • The NPVS-R demonstrates validity and reliability for use with male nurses and nursing students.
  • Further validation studies are recommended, but current findings support its use in diverse nursing demographics.
