    Background:

    • Immune system modulation during pregnancy is crucial for successful gestation.
    • Understanding changes in lymphocyte populations and functions is key to maternal health.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate potential alterations in peripheral blood lymphocyte functions throughout pregnancy.
    • To compare lymphocyte behavior in pregnant women versus non-pregnant controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Weekly analysis of lymphocyte functions in 105 pregnant women and 99 controls over nine months.
    • Assays included spontaneous E-rosettes, active rosettes, EA-rosettes, immunoglobulin staining, and cytotoxic anti-T serum assays.
    • Electrophoretic mobility fractionation to distinguish T and B lymphocytes was performed.
