Chromosome Replication02:31

Chromosome Replication

10.5K
Before a cell can divide, it must accurately replicate all of its chromosomes, including the DNA and its associated histone and non-histone proteins.  This process begins at numerous origins of replication during the S phase of the cell cycle in each of a cell’s chromosomes simultaneously. Certain nucleotides can act as origins of replication, but these sequences are not well defined - especially in complex, multi-cellular, eukaryotic species. The length of DNA that spans an origin...

DNA Replication02:40

DNA Replication

58.7K
DNA replication involves the separation of the two strands of the double helix, with each strand serving as a template from which the new complementary strand is copied.  After replication, each double-stranded DNA includes one parental or “old” strand and one “new” strand. This is known as semiconservative replication. The resulting DNA molecules have the same sequence and are divided equally into the two daughter cells.

Psychology as a Science01:13

Psychology as a Science

3.8K
Psychology, as a scientific discipline, aims to understand the mind and behavior through rigorous and systematic methods. The foundation of psychological research is evidence-based, relying heavily on the scientific method to derive and validate knowledge. This structured approach ensures that findings are reliable, valid, and applicable to broader contexts.
The scientific method in psychology involves six critical steps: making observations, formulating hypotheses, conducting tests, analyzing...

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

3.6K
Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation.
A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome...

Summary

Most research findings may be false, impacting behavioral sciences and clinical trials. Embracing open science, pre-registration, and revised incentives can improve scientific reproducibility and advance rehabilitation medicine.

Area of Science:

  • Behavioral Sciences
  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Clinical Trials

Background:

  • Replication crisis in behavioral sciences, with psychology reproducibility around 40%.
  • Repeated failures in clinical trials for neurological disorders necessitate re-evaluation of efficacy assessment.

Discussion:

  • A "crisis" in science motivates a shift towards transparent, open science practices.
  • The focus should be on testing hypotheses rather than supporting pre-determined intervention outcomes.

Key Insights:

  • Open science principles, including study pre-registration, are crucial for enhancing scientific rigor.
  • Reforming scientific incentive structures can foster a culture of transparency and reproducibility.

Outlook:

  • Adopting open science paradigms can accelerate scientific discovery in clinical fields.
  • This shift promises significant advancements in rehabilitation medicine through more reliable findings.
