Observation:

  • A young female presented with an incarcerated inguinal hernia, leading to surgery where a cystic mass near the round ligament was removed.
  • A 41-year-old male had a recurrent benign multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma, initially diagnosed after umbilical hernia repair and later found near the appendix.

Findings:

  • Histological examination confirmed benign multicystic mesothelioma in both cases.
  • The male patient experienced tumor recurrence, confirmed during surgery for a periappendicular abscess.
  • Malignant transformation risk is low, but recurrence rates after surgical removal can be as high as 50%.

Implications:

  • Complete surgical excision is the primary treatment.
  • Recurrent cases may require total peritonectomy or hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
  • Early diagnosis and consistent follow-up are crucial for managing this rare condition.
