Purpose of the Study:

  • Anatomically define the sacroiliac joint (SIJ).
  • Assess the influence of growth on SIJ morphology and pelvic parameters.

Main Methods:

  • Computed tomography (CT) scans of 49 young subjects (6 months–18 years) and 20 adults (18–50 years).
  • 3D segmentation and SIJ orientation analysis using Python scripts.
  • Subjects categorized into infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

Main Results:

  • Significant differences in SIJ orientation between younger age groups and adults.
  • SIJ orientation correlated significantly with age and pelvic incidence in younger subjects.
  • No significant gender or symmetrical differences observed.

Conclusions:

  • Morphological definition of the SIJ is independent of gender during growth.
  • Findings aid in the analysis and management of vertebral pathology.
