Summary

Two cases of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) were treated with surgical excision and skin grafts. This study highlights the surgical approach and long-term monitoring for malignant transformation in OSF patients.

Background:

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a potentially malignant disorder characterized by juxtaepithelial inflammatory reaction and progressive fibrosis of the oral mucosa.
Early diagnosis and management are crucial to prevent malignant transformation.

Observation:

Two cases of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) were presented.
Histological confirmation of OSF was performed for both cases.
Surgical excision of buccal fibrotic bands followed by skin grafting was the identical treatment for both patients.

Findings:

The surgical intervention for oral submucous fibrosis involved the removal of fibrotic bands and reconstruction with skin grafts.
Postoperative follow-up was conducted to assess treatment outcomes and screen for malignant changes.
A review of the existing literature on oral submucous fibrosis was conducted.

Implications:

Surgical management with skin grafting can be an effective treatment for oral submucous fibrosis.
Long-term monitoring is essential for early detection of malignant transformation in OSF patients.
This case series contributes to understanding the surgical treatment and follow-up protocols for oral submucous fibrosis.
