Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in prisons: a prevalence study.

Hepatitis B (HBV) and Hepatitis C (HCV) prevalence in Turkish prisons was similar to the general population. Public health initiatives like screening and vaccination are recommended for prisons to prevent infectious disease spread.

- HCV infection was detected in 0.5% of prisoners.
- No cases of HBV and HCV coinfection were identified.
Conclusions:
- The prevalence of HBV and HCV in this study group was comparable to the general population.
- Findings should not be generalized to all prison settings.
- Routine screening and vaccination are crucial for public health within correctional facilities.
