Transient loss of consciousness (TLoC) cases initially misdiagnosed as syncope were found to be focal seizures with ictal asystole. Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and pacemakers were used, with AEDs proving crucial for seizure control.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Cardiology
- Epileptology
Background:
- Transient loss of consciousness (TLoC) can be challenging to diagnose, with syncope and seizures being common differential diagnoses.
- Ictal asystole, a rare cause of TLoC during seizures, presents diagnostic and management complexities.
