  • To evaluate the decision-making process within a single-day bariatric MDT clinic.
  • To assess the implementation and adherence to MDT decisions for bariatric surgery patients.

  • Retrospective observational study analyzing MDT treatment decisions from February 2012 to June 2013.
  • Investigated MDT decision-making by assessing management plan alterations between surgeons and other MDT members.
  • Assessed adherence to the established MDT decisions.

  • Analysis of 200 consecutive patients revealed 55% MDT agreement, with 45% disagreement.
  • Conflicting opinions were noted among surgeons (17%), anaesthetists (30%), and dieticians (33%).

Conclusions:

  • A single-day MDT clinic format led to significant plan changes, suggesting enhanced quality of care.
  • The MDT approach is concluded to be valuable in bariatric surgery patient management.
  • Further assessment attendance was the primary barrier to MDT plan implementation.
