  • This case highlights a rare instance of a colonic MPNST with hepatic metastasis in a domestic cat.

Observation:

  • A 14-year-old domestic mediumhair cat presented with weight loss and inappetence.
  • Diagnostic imaging revealed colonic and hepatic masses.
  • Histopathology confirmed a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor with hepatic metastasis.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection of the colonic tumor and hepatic metastasis was performed.
  • Postoperative treatment with metronomic cyclophosphamide was initiated.
  • The cat experienced tumor recurrence and metastasis to multiple organs 18 months post-surgery, leading to euthanasia.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the rarity and aggressive nature of feline visceral MPNSTs.
  • Further research is needed to understand the optimal treatment strategies and prognostic factors for feline MPNSTs.
  • Accurate diagnosis and surgical intervention, potentially combined with chemotherapy, may offer temporary disease control.
