Summary

This study found that elderly patients with severe chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) showed similar pituitary and thyroid hormone levels compared to controls. Age and general illness, not hypoxia, likely impact hypothalamic-pituitary function in COPD patients.

    • Further research is needed to fully elucidate the complex interplay between COPD, aging, and hormonal regulation.
