Summary
Quality indicators are increasingly used in community pharmacy practice. However, current evidence shows a lack of measurable process and outcome indicators to effectively improve pharmacy quality.
Area of Science:
- Pharmacy Practice Research
- Health Services Research
Background:
- Quality indicators (QIs) are established healthcare improvement tools.
- There is increasing interest in applying QIs to community pharmacy.
Purpose of the Study:
- To scope the use of quality indicators in community pharmacy.
- To review methods for developing and evaluating these indicators.
Main Methods:
- Scoping review of EMBASE and PubMed (2008-2018).
- Included studies reporting empirical data on QI development or evaluation.
- No language or country restrictions; all study designs eligible.
Main Results:
- 15 articles from 12 countries were included.
- 11 studies focused on QI development; 8 evaluated psychometric properties.
- 4 studies examined QI impact, reporting improvements mainly in structure, not process or outcome.
Conclusions:
- Evidence on the impact of QIs on improving community pharmacy quality is limited.
- Need for measurable process and outcome indicators.
- Future QI development should involve multiple stakeholders.

Certain organic substances change color in dilute solution when the hydronium ion concentration reaches a particular value. For example, phenolphthalein is a colorless substance in any aqueous solution with a hydronium ion concentration greater than 5.0 × 10−9 M (pH < 8.3). In more basic solutions where the hydronium ion concentration is less than 5.0 × 10−9 M (pH > 8.3), it is red or pink. Substances such as phenolphthalein, which can be used to determine the pH of a solution, are...

The Scope of Physics
52.4K
Physics is concerned with the interactions of energy, matter, space, and time, in order to discover the underlying mechanisms that underpin all phenomena. The word "physics" comes from the Greek word "phúsis", which means nature. Physics seeks to comprehend the natural world around us at its most fundamental level. It emphasizes the use of quantitative laws to do this, which could be valuable in other fields that want to push the performance boundaries of present...

In statistics, several tools are used to interpret the data. Measures of central tendency represent the characteristics of the data, such as mean, median, and mode. Additionally, measures of variance like standard deviation and range are used to find the spread of data from the mean. Relative standing measures the distance between data locations. Commonly used measures of relative standings are percentile, z score, and quartiles.

Data are individual items of information obtained from a population or sample. Data may be classified as qualitative (categorical), quantitative continuous, or quantitative discrete. Because it is not practical to measure the entire population in a study, researchers use samples to represent the population. A random sample is a representative group from the population chosen by using a method that gives each individual in the population an equal chance of being included in the sample. Random...

Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.
