Pulse amplitude and quality01:17

Pulse amplitude and quality

3.0K
Pulse amplitude is a crucial indicator of cardiac health because it provides valuable insights into the strength of left ventricular contractions and the overall uniformity of blood circulation within the vasculature. The strength of the pulse is directly related to the force with which the heart contracts and the volume of blood being pumped.
A weak or absent pulse may indicate reduced cardiac output or poor left ventricular contraction, which can be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction or...

Social Exchange Theory

39.5K
We have discussed why we form relationships, what attracts us to others, and different types of love. But what determines whether we are satisfied with and stay in a relationship? One theory that provides an explanation is social exchange theory. According to social exchange theory, we act as naïve economists in keeping a tally of the ratio of costs and benefits of forming and maintaining a relationship with others (Rusbult & Van Lange, 2003).

Crystal Field Theory
To explain the observed behavior of transition metal complexes (such as colors), a model involving electrostatic interactions between the electrons from the ligands and the electrons in the unhybridized d orbitals of the central metal atom has been developed. This electrostatic model is crystal field theory (CFT). It helps to understand, interpret, and predict the colors, magnetic behavior, and some structures of coordination compounds of transition metals.

Crystal Field Theory - Tetrahedral and Square Planar Complexes

Tetrahedral Complexes
Crystal field theory (CFT) is applicable to molecules in geometries other than octahedral. In octahedral complexes, the lobes of the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals point directly at the ligands. For tetrahedral complexes, the d orbitals remain in place, but with only four ligands located between the axes. None of the orbitals points directly at the tetrahedral ligands. However, the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals (along the Cartesian axes) overlap with the ligands less than the dxy,...

Band Theory02:35

Band Theory

17.1K
When two or more atoms come together to form a molecule, their atomic orbitals combine and molecular orbitals of distinct energies result. In a solid, there are a large number of atoms, and therefore a large number of atomic orbitals that may be combined into molecular orbitals. These groups of molecular orbitals are so closely placed together to form continuous regions of energies, known as the bands.
The energy difference between these bands is known as the band gap.

Summary

We developed a method to simplify string correlators into logarithmic functions, enabling field-theory amplitude calculations using the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula. This technique reveals string amplitudes as a double copy of field-theory amplitudes and specific integrals.

Area of Science:

  • Theoretical Physics
  • High Energy Physics
  • String Theory

Background:

  • String theory amplitudes are complex to compute.
  • The Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula provides a powerful framework for calculating scattering amplitudes in field theory.
  • Relating string theory and field theory amplitudes is a key goal in theoretical physics.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a novel integration-by-parts reduction for massless tree-level string correlators.
  • To establish a connection between string amplitudes and field-theory amplitudes via the CHY formula.
  • To derive a closed-form CHY integrand for specific quantum field theories.

Main Methods:

  • Employing integration-by-parts reduction techniques on string correlators.
  • Utilizing the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula to define field-theory amplitudes.
  • Applying the developed method to open bosonic and heterotic string theories.

Main Results:

  • Any massless tree-level string correlator can be reduced to an equivalence class of logarithmic functions.
  • String amplitudes are shown to be the double copy of field-theory amplitudes and a special disk or sphere integral.
  • A closed-form CHY integrand is obtained for the (DF)^2 + Yang-Mills + phi^3 theory.

Conclusions:

  • The presented method offers a generic approach applicable to any rational correlator with the correct SL(2) weight.
  • This work provides a new pathway for understanding the relationship between string theory and quantum field theory.
  • The derived CHY integrand simplifies calculations for specific, important quantum field theories.
