Background:

Child abuse is a significant national issue in the Netherlands, frequently undetected within medical environments.
Mandatory screening for child abuse is now required in emergency departments and out-of-hours primary care services.
Recent implementation of the revised Reporting Code has spurred renewed focus on a national strategy for child abuse screening.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the validity and practical utility of existing child abuse screening instruments for medical professionals.
To assess how effectively current screening tools aid healthcare providers in identifying potential child abuse cases.
To inform the development of improved approaches for child abuse detection in medical settings.

Main Methods:

Review and analysis of available child abuse screening instruments.
Examination of the clinical consequences and daily practice implications of using these instruments.
Assessment of the diagnostic accuracy and effectiveness of current screening protocols.
