    Background:

    • Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is a rare chronic lymphoid leukemia.
    • The cellular origin and specific characteristics of hairy cells (HCs) remain areas of investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cytochemical and immunological properties of HCs.
    • To determine the cellular lineage and functional characteristics of HCs.

    • Cytochemical staining for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase and alpha naphthyl acetate esterase.
    • Immunological studies including rosette formation, complement receptor, Fc receptor, and B cell antigen analysis.
