  • Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a common PC management strategy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess ADT's impact on cognitive function.
  • To evaluate ADT's effect on grey matter volume (GMV) and white matter lesion (WML) load using MRI.

Main Methods:

  • Study included 50 ADT patients and 15 PC-non-ADT controls.
  • Neuropsychological evaluations and MRI scans (T1, FLAIR) were performed.
  • GMV and WML burden were quantified.

Main Results:

  • Significant cognitive impairment was noted in most patients.
  • No significant cognitive differences between groups, but educational background influenced outcomes.
  • No group differences in GMV/WML, but ADT duration correlated negatively with GMV.
  • Age positively associated with WML in the ADT group (β=.406; p=.004).

Conclusions:

  • ADT in PC patients accelerates age-related brain changes.
  • This includes increased WML development and GMV reduction.
