First description of Echinococcus ortleppi infection in China

Summary
The first human Echinococcus ortleppi infection in China is reported. This finding expands the known geographical range of this rare Echinococcus species.

- Morphological analysis and genetic sequencing (nad1 and cox1 genes) confirmed the larvae as E. ortleppi.

- This case represents the first documented human infection with Echinococcus ortleppi in China.
- Genetic analysis revealed 99-100% homology between the isolated larvae and known E. ortleppi sequences.
- The patient's infection originated from Guangxi, a region not previously associated with Echinococcus ortleppi.

- This discovery extends the geographical distribution of Echinococcus ortleppi.
- It highlights the potential for E. ortleppi to cause human infections in non-endemic areas of China.
