Summary

Cystic lymphangioma, a rare benign tumor, can present as a difficult-to-diagnose abdominal mass. Surgical resection is a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic mesenteric cystic lymphangioma.

Background:

Cystic lymphangioma is a rare benign tumor.
Abdominal localization is uncommon and diagnosis can be challenging preoperatively.
Surgical intervention is indicated for symptomatic abdominal or mesenteric localizations.

Purpose of the Study:

To present a case of a rare mesenteric cystic lymphangioma.
To highlight diagnostic challenges and successful surgical management.

Main Methods:

A 26-year-old female presented with left hypochondrial pain and swelling.
Imaging (ultrasound, CT scan) revealed a large mesenteric cyst.
Fine needle aspiration cytology was non-diagnostic for malignancy.
Surgical resection via laparotomy was performed.

Main Results:

A 15 cm mesenteric cystic mass was surgically resected.
Histological examination confirmed a cystic lymphangioma.
The patient's symptoms resolved post-operatively.

Conclusions:

Mesenteric cystic lymphangioma is a rare entity.
Surgical resection is a safe and effective treatment for this condition.
Early diagnosis and surgical management are crucial for favorable outcomes.
