Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate and compare aortic stiffness in patients diagnosed with Wilson disease (WD).

- Aortic stiffness was assessed in 32 WD patients and 24 healthy controls using the SphygmoCor device.
- Key parameters measured included aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV), augmentation pressure (AP), and augmentation index (AIx).
- Central aortic pressures (systolic, diastolic, mean, pulse) were also recorded.
Main Results:
- Demographic and clinical characteristics (age, sex, BMI, renal/hepatic function) were comparable between WD patients and controls.
- Patients with WD exhibited anemia and thrombocytopenia, but echocardiographic findings were similar to controls.
- No significant differences were observed in central aortic pressures, AP, AIx, or PWV between the WD group and healthy controls.
Conclusions:
- Aortic stiffness, as measured by PWV, AP, and AIx, does not appear to be significantly altered in patients with Wilson disease.
- The findings suggest that Wilson disease, in the absence of other cardiovascular risk factors, may not directly impact aortic stiffness.
