  • The General Medicine Faculty Training Program (GMFTP) was established in 2009.
  • The program includes basic training (BT) and clinical training.
  • It focuses on teaching and assessing 6 core competencies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the effects of the GMFTP on physicians' knowledge and teaching confidence.
  • To assess the correlation between trainee characteristics, knowledge improvement (KI), and teaching confidence (TC).

Main Methods:

  • Physicians attended GMFTPs between 2009 and 2017.
  • Quick tests assessed core competency knowledge (KI) post-BT.
  • Questionnaires assessed teaching confidence (TC) annually since 2013.

Main Results:

  • Significant knowledge improvement (KI) was observed immediately after basic training.
  • No correlation was found between trainee characteristics and KI.
  • Teaching confidence (TC) positively correlated with age and time since training, but not with KI.

Conclusions:

  • Immediate knowledge gain occurred, but did not predict long-term teaching confidence.
  • Physicians' teaching confidence increased over time following the training program.
  • The GMFTP effectively enhances knowledge and teaching confidence in general medicine faculty.
