Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess changes in overweight/obesity prevalence in Swiss school-aged children over 16 years.
  • To identify lifestyle and parental predictors of childhood overweight and obesity.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of national data from 4 cohorts of children aged 6-12 years (2002-2017/18).
  • Measurements included height, weight, waist circumference, and skinfold thickness.
  • Risk factors assessed via questionnaire: diet, physical activity, parental education, and origin.

Main Results:

  • Overweight (including obesity) prevalence decreased slightly but significantly since 2002 (OR 0.988).
  • Obesity prevalence alone did not show a significant change.

  • A small but significant declining trend in childhood overweight/obesity exists in Switzerland.
