We developed VisioProt-MS, a free web tool for visualizing intact protein mass spectrometry (MS) data. This application aids in analyzing complex proteoform data from liquid chromatography-MS (LC-MS) experiments.
Area of Science:
- Proteomics
- Biochemistry
- Computational Biology
Background:
- Intact protein analysis using mass spectrometry (MS) requires advanced data visualization tools.
- Liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS) generates complex datasets requiring specialized analysis.
- Existing tools may lack flexibility for integrating and deconvoluting diverse MS data.
Purpose of the Study:
- To introduce VisioProt-MS, a novel, free, and open-source web application for visualizing intact protein MS data.
- To provide a user-friendly platform for analyzing complex proteoform data from LC-MS experiments.
- To demonstrate the utility of LC-MS map visualization for optimizing MS acquisition and data analysis.
Main Methods:
- Development of a web application, VisioProt-MS, for data visualization.
- Integration with existing algorithms for deconvolution of top-down and intact protein MS data.
- Utilizing three-dimensional (3D) LC-MS maps to represent molecular weights, retention times, and signal intensity.
Main Results:
- VisioProt-MS offers dynamic and user-friendly graphical representations for MS and MS/MS data.
- The application is compatible with various community-developed algorithms for data integration and deconvolution.
- Demonstrated utility of LC-MS map visualization for optimizing top-down acquisition parameters and analyzing intact protein MS data.
Conclusions:
- VisioProt-MS enhances the analysis of intact protein MS data through intuitive visualization.
- The tool facilitates the interpretation of complex proteoform data in various biological samples.
- VisioProt-MS serves as a valuable resource for the proteomics community, improving data analysis workflows.
