Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a fully automatic quantitative lung ultrasound score (QLUSS) system.

  • To compare QLUSS with existing semi-quantitative LUS scores.

  • Prospective observational study of 12 intensive care unit patients.
  • Collected five LUS scores: four semi-quantitative (nLUSS, cLUSS, qLUSS, %LUSS) and one quantitative (QLUSS).
  • Assessed association with EVLW using simple and robust linear regression; correlation analyzed with Spearman rank test; inter-observer variability tested with ICC.

  • QLUSS demonstrated strong associations with EVLW (R²=0.86 via RLR), comparable to qLUSS (R²=0.85).
  • QLUSS showed significant correlations with qLUSS (r=0.772) and %LUSS (r=0.757).
  • QLUSS exhibited the highest inter-observer reliability (ICC=0.998).

Conclusions:

  • Computer-aided QLUSS has potential for assessing EVLW by quantifying B-lines.
  • QLUSS may offer faster data analysis and broader applicability, pending validation on larger datasets.
  • This method is not suitable for cases with pleural effusion or consolidations.
