Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a systematic review of clinical outcomes following revision RCR.
  • To identify prognostic factors impacting postoperative results in revision RCR.

Main Methods:

  • A systematic literature search was performed across major databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library) up to November 2018.
  • Studies assessing revision RCR were screened for eligibility.
  • Pooled analysis examined correlations between preoperative measures (range-of-motion, ASES scores, VAS pain scores) and postoperative outcomes using linear regression and Spearman correlation coefficients.

Main Results:

  • Twenty-two studies (3 Level III, 19 Level IV) met inclusion criteria.
  • Preoperative forward flexion strongly correlated with postoperative ASES scores (rS = 0.98) and forward flexion (rS = 0.83).
  • Preoperative VAS pain and ASES scores showed significant correlations with postoperative VAS pain (rS = 0.88) and ASES scores (rS = 0.56), respectively, with a moderate negative association between preoperative VAS and postoperative ASES (rS = -0.48).

Conclusions:

  • Revision RCR, whether open or arthroscopic, yields favorable clinical outcomes.
  • Preoperative forward flexion emerges as a significant prognostic indicator for enhanced postoperative results in revision rotator cuff repair.
