  • Presepsin is a glycoprotein used as a sepsis marker for bacterial infections.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To standardize blood collection to exclude stirring effects.
  • To analyze the influence of kidney function on presepsin concentrations.
  • To recalculate the reference range for presepsin based on renal function.

Main Methods:

  • Standardized blood collection to eliminate sample stirring.
  • Measured presepsin levels in 47 healthy subjects and 85 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients using PATHFAST.
  • Analyzed correlations between presepsin, creatinine, eGFRcreat, cystatin-C, and eGFRcys.

Main Results:

  • Presepsin showed significant correlations with renal function biomarkers (creatinine, eGFRcreat, cystatin-C, eGFRcys).
  • Presepsin levels increased significantly with advancing glomerular filtration rate stages in CKD patients.

Conclusions:

  • Presepsin concentrations are positively correlated with renal function biomarkers.
