5-Number Summary01:04

5-Number Summary

5.5K
In a dataset, the 5-number summary includes the minimum data value, the data value of the first quartile, the median data value or data value of the second quartile, the data value of the third quartile, and the maximum data value. These 5 data values can be visualized as a box and whisker plot.
In a box plot, the minimum and maximum data values represent the lower and upper whiskers in the graph, and the median is designated as the center of the box in the chart. The first quartile and third...

Conditions on Early Earth02:06

Conditions on Early Earth

100.6K
Around 4 billion years ago, oceans began to condense on earth while volcanic eruptions released nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, ammonia, and hydrogen into the primordial atmosphere. However, organisms with the characteristics of life were not initially present on earth. Scientists have used experimentation to determine how organisms evolved that could grow, reproduce, and maintain an internal environment.

Classical Conditioning01:18

Classical Conditioning

2.0K
Associative learning, a core principle in behavioral psychology, involves forming connections between events and facilitating learned responses. This concept is vividly illustrated by classical conditioning, a process extensively studied by the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov. Pavlov's pioneering research on dogs' digestive systems led to the discovery that behaviors can be learned through association, laying the groundwork for classical conditioning.
Ivan Pavlov observed that dogs...

Summary

Ambiguities in quantum field theory calculations involving gamma-5 are resolved. A new method provides a scheme-independent relation, fixing calculation uncertainties in standard model beta functions and Yukawa interactions.

Area of Science:

  • Quantum Field Theory
  • High Energy Physics
  • Theoretical Physics

Background:

  • Dimensional regularization introduces ambiguities in calculations involving the gamma-5 matrix.
  • These ambiguities affect precise calculations of standard model parameters, such as gauge beta functions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To resolve ambiguities arising from the treatment of gamma-5 in dimensional regularization.
  • To establish a scheme-independent method for fixing these ambiguities in field-theoretic calculations.

Main Methods:

  • Application of Weyl consistency conditions.
  • Derivation of a relation between coefficients in gauge and Yukawa beta functions.

Main Results:

  • A scheme-independent relation is established between a term in four-loop gauge beta functions and a corresponding term in three-loop Yukawa beta functions.

  • This relation resolves ambiguities related to the treatment of gamma-5.
  • Conclusions:

    • The developed method successfully fixes ambiguities in standard model calculations.
    • The approach is extendable to resolve similar ambiguities at higher orders in perturbation theory.
