A new digital microscale method accurately measures small neurosurgical microvessels. This technique enhances surgical precision for microvessels 1 mm or less, improving patient safety.
Area of Science:
- Neurosurgery
- Medical Imaging
- Microsurgical Techniques
Background:
- Accurate measurement of microstructures is critical for safe and minimally invasive neurosurgical microsurgery.
- Existing methods may lack precision for sub-millimeter structures.
Purpose of the Study:
- To introduce a simple digital method for measuring microvessel size using a computer-generated microscale.
- To validate the accuracy of this digital microscale for intracranial microstructures.
Main Methods:
- A digital image was converted into a functional microscale on a computer.
- The size of intracranial microstructures was measured using this digital microscale.
Main Results:
- The digital microscale accurately measured the size of the vertebral artery perforator.
- Measurements were precise for structures 1 mm or less.
Conclusions:
- A digital microscale is easily developed and provides accurate measurements of microstructures.
- This method enhances the feasibility of precise measurements for critical neurosurgical targets.
