Interslice Magnetization Transfer Ratio Imaging for Meningioma Detection01:26

Interslice Magnetization Transfer Ratio Imaging for Meningioma Detection

176
Begin with a patient with meningioma, or a brain tumor, positioned in an MRI scanner for non-invasive brain imaging.Adjust the scanner to obtain structural images of individual slices of the brain.Enhance the contrast to improve tissue differentiation.Use interslice magnetization transfer ratio imaging on brain slices using radiofrequency pulses slightly offset from the MRI signal. The pulses deliver energy to the proton pool in macromolecules and bound water molecules. This energy transfers to...

Three-Dimensional Reconstruction for the Whole Lung with Early Multiple Pulmonary Nodules

2.0K
This study introduces a three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction method for the entire lung in patients with early multiple pulmonary nodules. It offers a comprehensive visualization of nodule distribution and their interplay with lung tissue, simplifying the assessment of diagnosis and prognosis for these...

An Organotypic High Throughput System for Characterization of Drug Sensitivity of Primary Multiple Myeloma Cells

9.1K
We describe a high-throughput drug sensitivity assay for primary multiple myeloma cells. It consists of a reconstruction of the bone marrow microenvironment (including extracellular matrix and stroma) in multi-well plates, and a non-invasive method for longitudinal quantification of cell...

Murine Echocardiography of Left Atrium, Aorta, and Pulmonary Artery

15.0K
The following protocol describes the methodology for the acquisition and analysis of echocardiographic images used to obtain the Left Atrial Volume (LAV), Aorta (Ao) diameter, and Pulmonary Artery (PA) diameter in mice. This technique is a non-invasive, non-terminal procedure that allows assessment of the cardiopulmonary...

Summary

This case study details a rare instance of multiple primary pulmonary meningiomas in a woman with a history of teratomas. The lung nodules were successfully diagnosed and resected, confirming their origin as primary pulmonary meningiomas.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology
  • Thoracic Surgery

Background:

  • A 52-year-old woman presented with incidentally discovered lung nodules on abdominal CT.
  • She had a complex medical history including ovarian teratoma, retroperitoneal teratoma, and peritoneal teratoma resections.
  • This history raised diagnostic considerations for metastatic disease or germ cell tumor recurrence.

Observation:

  • Abdominal CT revealed multiple lung nodules.
  • Chest CT confirmed three solid nodules in the right and left lung segments.
  • The patient had no evidence of central nervous system meningeal lesions on MRI.

Findings:

  • Thoracoscopic resection of the lung nodules was performed.
  • Histopathological examination confirmed the tumors to be meningiomas.
  • The absence of other histological components and negative CNS MRI supported the diagnosis of primary pulmonary meningiomas.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the rare occurrence of multiple primary pulmonary meningiomas.
  • It underscores the importance of comprehensive differential diagnosis in patients with a history of germ cell tumors presenting with lung nodules.
  • Further research into the pathogenesis and management of primary pulmonary meningiomas is warranted.
